We must give answers and seek a balance. Facing a global crisis, one cannot respond with ordinary tools.

At the Rubyter trial, prosecutor Siciliano (retired): "I want to see the end."

AGI - In the courtroom of the Ruby Ter appeal trial, the former prosecutor Tiziana Siciliano appeared in the public gallery, having conducted the investigations representing the prosecution in the first-degree judgment that resulted in the acquittal of all defendants, including Silvio Berlusconi.

"I’m here to see the end of the story – she told the journalists – I want to see it to convince myself that this story has had an unreasonable duration but that it will end and not remain suspended over our heads. Forensic archaeology? I started the investigations with Luca Gaglio in 2014. It's the duration of the trials in Italy, it’s proof of the inefficiency of the justice system and not for fault of the magistrates, due to their lack of willingness or inability." In recent days, Siciliano had announced that she would run in the upcoming Milan municipal elections on a civic list.

The defenses of three former police officers: “Reopen the trial”

The defenses of three former police officers, Claudia Iona Amarghioalei, Roberta Bonasia and Barbara Faggioli, asked the judges of the Court of Appeal to renew the evidentiary proceedings of the Ruby Ter trial, i.e. to call witnesses into court to support the innocence of their clients, accused of corruption in judicial proceedings for having lied, in exchange for money and other benefits, in the trial against Silvio Berlusconi stemming from Ruby’s statements and ending with the acquittal of the founder of Forza Italia. There was only one defendant in court, Miriam Loddo, whose lawyer stated: “This trial is a desecration of a corpse; they should be handled by necropractors and not magistrates, it would be more serious.”

The Deputy Public Prosecutor General Luca Poniz and the prosecutor Luca Gaglio opposed the reopening of the trial, arguing the uselessness of hearing the indicated witnesses as they would testify on “circumstances already amply proven.” The word now passes to the defenses for rebuttals to the representatives of the prosecution. The defendants, mostly women who participated in the evenings at Villa San Martino, are 22. The task “entrusted” by the Supreme Court to the Court of Appeal, following the annulment of the 2023 acquittals, is to determine whether the crime of corruption in judicial proceedings can be configured. The acquittal in first instance came because, according to the Milan Tribunal, the witnesses should have been heard not as witnesses but as investigated, therefore with a defense attorney by their side.
