The way this writer, a member of the dubbing team, talked about the show and his inability or refusal to unpack even its most basic themes spoke to the sort of misogyny that pervades critical analysis, in which female characters and creators don’t get even the slightest grace for being messy, imperfect beings.
After taking some time to check out the recently controversial dub of Lovely Complex, I had some surprising thoughts I needed to get out there.
Great, the Lovely Complex dub controversy is, as expected, being wielded like a club by the worst people you know to try and hate on localization.
The worst part is? In this specific case, there are legitimate points to be made about censorship and what is included in media. But having these discussions likely helps those cruddy folks support their bad faith arguments.
Blegh, I feel like writing a piece anyways, but I'm unsure on it now.

FlyboyMFinished Lovely Complex but man I am still mad at episodes 21 & 22. It was unneeded, added nothing to the overall story or their relationship, and was just poor drama for drama sake. That being said the show was still very enjoyable and I still want to check out more shojo anime/manga. I kinda will miss Kozumi & Otani. #LovelyComplex
