Oof. #LousyCarter was a disappointment. It has all the elements in place to be a funny, interesting short movie about nihilism in the face of a terminal diagnosis. But it does nothing with it. It's boring.
You know how a good film can have flaws, but you don't care? But the bad ones you'll nitpick at every loose string? Well, various characters repeat the same vocal tics (as if the writer forgot they were writing for multiple people occasionally). That's where I'm at: noticing that kind of thing.
From the trailer, I fully expected this to take the 'Office Space' route of a guy with no fucks to give, finding enlightenment in his sudden fate.
But it's not that. It's... I don't know what it is, other than a way to make an 1:20 film feel twice it's length with nothing to show for it.
To be fair, I went into this with an expectation that the film was never going to fulfill. But even removing that element, what actually IS here did nothing for me.
2/5
A ★★ review of Lousy Carter (2023)
Oof. This was a disappointment. It has all the elements in place to be a really great short movie about nihilism in the face of a terminal diagnosis. But it does nothing interesting with it. From the trailer, I fully expected this to take the 'Office Space' route of a guy with no fucks to give after finding enlightenment as he learns his life is about to be cut short. But it's not that. It's... I don't know what it is, other than a way to make an 1:20 film feel twice it's length with nothing to show for it.
