A few weeks ago, with an invitation from @hollie , I signed up for a #watercolor class with #LizSteel Her teaching style and course structure don’t fully work for me right now, so I have been skipping the homework and prioritizing the recent live online classes. How she approaches plein air sketching is helping me get more curious and confident to give it a whirl, maybe in time for an upcoming trip…!

Here’s what I did during the short paint-along section

#watercolour

I admit, even though I’m not keeping up at all with the online mini lessons that #LizSteel posts, watching her live video lesson gives me a new way to think about travel sketching— (1) using pen/a marker to sketch a scene so I’m less attached to having a perfect drawing; and (2) consider what watery washes I’ll use where, and where I’ll use thicker pigment (“pasty” as Liz calls it) to have more of a focal point

I’m not on here much these days… Popped in on a livestream class with #LizSteel and had 75 minutes away from the concerns of the world to paint sketches of vegetables, of all things

In the intro to the class she talks about using the palette you have instead of buying new colors. I have a lot of paint. I don't want to say "too much" because the gods might hear.

<hugs shelf of art supplies, whispers "my preciousss...">

I'm giving myself a challenge. How long can I go without buying more paint? How long can my current hoard last? Making this palette to use for the next few months, for the class, for EVERYTHING, to see what I really use.
