I dreamed:
I was living in nyc, I'd never left... a common dream for me.
I went to a big, dark, crowded, messy comics shop on 72nd street, where the TRADER JOE'S is. I was a regular there.
I was digging through the Bargain Box, where they put promos and damaged comics. Fancy new replicas of classic LITTLE GOLDEN BOOKS had just been issued, and I found two of them, TUFFY, THE TOUGH LITTLE MOUSE and PORKY PIG AT HOME. The covers had beautiful gold embossing, rather than the gold foil.
I found another comic, the title referred to heating - I think it was THERMODYNAMIC - and it was about Joan of Arc. i started to buy it as well, but I saw that it was issue 7, and I wanted to start from the beginning of the series.
I knew I would have to justify these purchases with someone somewhere along the way, so my story, which I was Iendlessly rehearsing, so I''d be ready when asked, was: "I'm a comics professional; these are for reference."
It was very important that I NOT let on that I was reading these comics for pleasure, that I enjoyed the art and story; I HAD to justify it as "a business expense".
