I dumped #Duolingo when they started using #AI to solve the problem of paying their staff wages.

Lingodeer is not subtle about using real people for audio and video lessons.

And my Mandarin is notably improved.

So there we go.

#Lingodeer

Wie viele andere hier habe ich vor zwei Wochen wegen deren Infektion mit Künstlicher „Intelligenz“ #duolingo gelöscht.

Was nimmt man stattdessen?

Ich habe mir #LingoDeer und #Busuu angesehen, und bin jetzt bei Busuu hängengeblieben. Funktioniert eigentlich genauso wie Duolingo, inklusive Gamification (yeah, Streak…), gefällt mir eigentlich sogar besser bisher, es wird mehr erklärt und es scheint auch abwechslungsreicher zu sein.

Aber die Frage ist doch: Sind die anderen stabiler gegen KI?

Could be that #Lingodeer is the #Duolingo replacement I have been looking for.

And the thing is, I found an article from November in the Sun (of all places) giving UK pricing. It's not bad at all, particularly not for multiple people (which is what I'm looking for). So why all the cloak-and-dagger?

Looking at #LingoDeer instead at the moment. Much easier to find their pricing. It's more expensive, but also seems more adv and less restrictive. But so far (very brief couple of lessons) they don't have me speaking, which Duolingo does (not sure it actually listens, but...).

I have watched 33 #Kdrama this year. It’s sort of stunning how it has taken over my life. Taking emotional refuge where I can find it! Learning basic #Korean too. Duolingo is pure crap for it (I tried, I really did), but #LingoDeer works for me!

I ended up shelving #Wokabulary in favour of #Anki. Mainly because the #SRS in Anki felt smarter tbh. Having an app tell you "come back in five weeks" after you picked "yes, know it" a few times feels weird when youre used to "again | hard | good | easy" scheduling markers.

Anki still isn't as granular as #WaniKani / #Tsurukame but it feels like an Achievement to have a growing deck!

(I'm happy to share the deck but it's a growing, breathing work in progress that will eventually have all on #Lingodeer Japanese 1 after I get through that course. It also uses Anki TTS because I don't have recordings for the words)

I’ve deliberately let my #Drops streak break. A few reasons, but mainly because I wanted to focus on #LingoDeer for #Thai.

I will probably go back to it at some point, but maintaining the streak was a distraction that didn’t feel worth it for an app that wouldn’t even change the text (ฉัน) to match what the audio is saying (ผม?) when I switched the gender of the speaker.

Also, I might want to understand more than one gender of speaker.

#LanguageLearning

I added Anki / Wokabulary to my tool belt because I feel like I should do some SRS based vocabulary practice for what lingodeer feeds me in new words.

Now there's WaniKani for Kanji, Lingodeer for grammar / vocab / general learning and Wokabulary for vocab drills.

(and Anki for the occasional Hiragana / Katakana reminder - I might migrate my Wokabulary list to it if I can find a way to have it do TTS).

.. gotta love him questioning my replies "are you _sure_?”.

No dad.. this gal has only been conversing in English for some 20 years, what do I know about the language.

I got my dad (61) hooked on #LingoDeer for their #English course..

Going to call that an achievement.
