#japonais #wanikani

Your bi-weekly #wanikani is here!

Proud burn rate of 4.79 items/day 📈 which is the most I had in past 42 days!

Through wanikani's community forums learned that what I'm dealing with is called "leeches”, and this is a well known phenomenon when trying to burn remaining items down after Level 60. At least it is helpful to know that I’m not alone in it!

A week ago I started listening audibooks in Japanese while walking the dog. We'll see what effect it has on my TTBJ comprehension!

#日本語

This is a bi-weekly #wanikani update from yours truly!

Burn rate: 3.36 items/day 📉 (47 items)

Nothing exciting to share, but I'm counting items down! Wanikani added more content so now I'm at 952 items remaining. At least I'm burning items faster than they add new ones, haha!

According to heat map I did 821 reviews in March, or 26.5 per day on average. This is low enough to go through in 10-15 minutes in the morning so I can’t complain!

#日本語

I'm really digging https://kanji.school/ as a client for #wanikani.
KanjiSchool

SRS kanji learning application for WaniKani users.

Kind of weird to post a #wanikani with the Node.js thing going on, but bi-weekly update is bi-weekly update!

Burn rate: 3.93 items/day 📉 (55 items)

I guess we are still burning things?! I have 988 items remaining so this might take me way longer to go through, especially if burn rate will keep falling as it does now.

The usual progress on burning the grammar, though!

#日本語

You wouldn't be able to guess, but it is #wanikani update time again!

Burn rate: 4.5 items/day 📉

This is what “burndown” territory looks like, folks. I'm making progress, but at this rate it might take me another 6 months to get through all items. It doesn't really take much time to do 20-30 reviews per day, but I'm also thinking about stopping here and just spending my time elsewhere.

I'm making progress on grammar and adding new vocab on bunpro.jp, though!

#日本語

In just about a week with #Bunpro, I've already covered half of #Genki I. I'm moving must faster than before. 5 new items per day. This is great!

I'm transitioning time spent at #WaniKani to Bunpro. I'm doing reviews as always, but I'm learning very few new WaniKani items daily.

#JapaneseLearning

I'm nearly finished with #Genki I. Only a few exercises left. I've been studying consistently every week since start of January.

When I went to Japan I bought some manga. I planned to try to readドラえもん volume 1 when I finished Genki I, one of the simpler manga I bought.

With this in mind, the other day I looked at #Natively (learnnatively.com) to see what it said about Doraemon. It says #WaniKani level 21. I'm currently finishing 29. No issue there.

I read some comments to see if anyone mentioned grammar level. I found a few comments mentioning N3. I'm not sure whether they're mentioning it in terms of vocabulary, grammar or both. But I know my grammar is barely a solid N5...

I looked up some more books. Many had WK level around 30, mostly below.

So... I've come to the hard realisation (which I already knew, but it hit me harder now) that my grammar is lagging behind. A lot!

With that in mind, I jumped into #Bunpro three days ago. I planned to do it after finishing Genki I and II, but now I know that's a mistake. I need to move much faster and in a solid way with grammar (spaced repetition, because I learn grammar and forget it...), and I think Bunpro will help. I'm enjoying it so far, let's see how it develops. (Ah, I synched vocab with WK, so I don't get furigana I should know. Also disabled English translation by default.)

I'm using the Genki I grammar deck for now, as a full review of everything I should already know and as a way to practice. And I'm learning new things/nuances because Bunpro has different explanations for the same grammar points.

Anyway, I'll soon try to read ドラえもん and see how it goes. The extent to which I'll understand it or not will be important information to assess how far or short I am in this long road of #JapaneseLearning .

On a vacation and still doing #wanikani 😅😭

Burn rate: 5 items/day. Seems very stable now…

Correct review rate keeps staying pretty high around 90%, but I guess I keep making mistakes in longer run and demote items back to apprentice.

New wanikani content is very useful and probably has little effect on my ending date given how slow things were going so far, hehe 🙃

#日本語

#wanikani update. Today I reached level 7. Up until now, I've been doing a speed run, taking about one week to pass each level. But, I think I'm going to slow down for now and focus more time on grammar. I finally explored user scripts and now have a better workflow when I do reviews from the web site. Whereas up until yesterday, I did all of my reviews using the Smouldering Durtles phone app (resulting arm pain). I'm also starting to poke around for language schools. I'm not sure though.
