Concert Archives tells me that 30 years ago today I saw #MazzyStar play at #LibertyLunch in Austin, Texas. Admittedly it was a very narrow-band sonic frequency that MZ always sought to tap into, probably by necessity. On this particular night the lights were so dim, there was nothing to see on stage - just vague, lumpy shapes, swaying slowly.

But I'll never forget #DavidRoback's guitar tone: INCREDIBLY noisy and distorted in a shrill, blown amp sort way. Only not at all loud, in fact actually kinda hushed and quiet. The net effect was like cracking an ear to some unidentifiable chaos from waaay down the street around the corner. I spent the evening leaning in closer to better grok this apparent contradiction.
