This is Menso Kamerlingh Onnes as an artist in his studio. In a spontaneous pose, surrounded by his attributes – Menso chooses an image as a creative individual in this self-portrait. Menso's working hands hold a mixing palette and brush, while above them are various bottles, paints, and varnishes.

On this day, 3 years ago, I had dinner and SDG discussion in the beautiful Lakenhal; the Leiden city museum of fine art & history. My mother, an art historian, worked here for 35 years. Rembrandt (see statute) was born in Leiden, many of his paintings can be seen here.
