The San Jacinto River Authority has been collecting Christmas trees every year for the past five years. They're used to create artificial habitats in conjunction with other methods to preserve or promote native species.

The City of Houston requested the San Jacinto River Authority divert water from Lake Conroe to delivery to Lake Houston by the West Fork of the river. The river authority began releasing water at a rate of 660 cubic feet per second over the weekend.

The report that a bald eagle was killed on Lake Conroe had not been confirmed as of Thursday, according to a game warden in Montgomery County. Shooting, killing, harming, capturing or otherwise disturbing the national bird of the United States is a violation of the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and punishable by a fine up $100,000, one year in prison or both for first-time offenders.
