I've spent a few more hours with #Knave2e. The game is OK. Generating stories and interesting places and adventures is a breeze due to the fantastic array of tables. The combat is simple and deadly, leading to lots of twists and turns. But the game falls apart for me when it comes to loot and xp. I downloaded a supplement that had an alternate system for treasure, but that still felt like too much work. Sure, I could just ignore all of that give myself xp how I see fit, but that's not what I want. And besides, none of my characters live long enough to level up in the first place.

My review from a solo player's perspective: Great book. Mediocre game.

Started a game of #Knave2e today as my latest #solorpg endeavor. The book is nice for generating characters, places, and world stuff. The rules are mostly simple with a lot of optional things. The one thing I hate is the brutal recommended skill checks. You mean to tell me that I have a 1 in 4 chance of doing things? Obviously I'm just going to lower the difficulty for myself. My gut instinct with these odds is to not do anything. What's the point? And the leveling up requirements seem awfully steep. The game seems to want the players to have a long campaign, but the difficulty seems to suggest quicker, more frantic runs.

I think I have a feel for how I'll continue. But it feels like I'll br going against the intent of the creator, whatever that means.

My party ventured down into a dungeon, specifically hunting down a boss monster.
It was great seeing their prep pay out, the telephone effects play up.

(It doesn't like fire -> use fire magic -> oh fuck, it's running away!)

And then the logistics of hauling the front half of a lobster home, and all the half revealed details of the dungeon. What did those skeletons want? How are the Wasps alive? Why did those bodies have their skulls? What was down that passage?

This looks like it is going to be an amazing short film. It uses papercraft puppets for the animation. The title is "The Knight and the Snail" and takes its inspiration from Medieval illuminated manuscripts that sometimes depicted knights fighting snails in their margins. Check it out.

I think people who are into OSR and NSR role playing games might get a kick out of it as well. Heck, the title reminds me of my favorite #Knave2e spell, Snail Knight.
