(3) Long Distance Runner by Fur Patrol (from their 2007 EP of the same name)

Saw them perform this on New Year's Eve at meowNUI, such an excellent show. If I recall correctly, Julia said this song was about her cat! (Which had died recently at the ripe old age of 21.)

The brilliant Don McGlashan in his Blam Blam Blam days, with the incisively sarcastic "There Is No Depression In New Zealand" (1981).

"We have no SIS
We have no secrets
We have no rebellion
We have no Valium
Valium, no, no
There is no depression in New Zealand"

https://youtu.be/2HVogejKx_c

Might've been poetic licence though, I'm not sure we did have that here then. At least, not by that name?

I had the privilege of attending the Lilburn Lecture by Mr McGlashan recently, he's an entertaining speaker as well as a fabulous musician. It'll be broadcast on RNZ Concert at 7pm on Sunday, then the audio will be available on RNZ and the video on YouTube. Highly recommended!

I see tonight's theme for Jukebox Friday Night is Food or Drink, which made me think of a track I've shared at least once before for a different topic. Romantic hip hop out of Tāmaki Makaurau. Not my usual jam but I kinda love it. They made a music video, which was touted all over the media at the time, but doesn't seem to be available anywhere.

@Kay They're a two hit wonder, for me at least 😊

The Swingers' 1979 debut "One Good Reason" apparently reached #19 in the chart - I'm pretty sure I already knew it before the 1990 Strawpeople cover. The cover didn't chart but I'm quite fond of it, though I've always struggled with the feeling that the first Strawpeople version I heard was different from and better than the one I was able to find!

At Spark Arena in Auckland for the Shihad show. There are four bands playing tonight. I missed the opening act but caught most of the second - Dick Move. They played a number that I think they called Budger or maybe Bludger, with the vocalist announcing that "it's about our prime minister, Christopher Luxon. He's a c**t!". I appreciated their politics more than their sound, their songs were a bit shouty/samey 🙂

"Flowers" by Chug

I love this song! Already posted it quite a long time ago, but not under this hashtag. It doesn't seem to be available anywhere but YouTube, sadly.

CW: lyrics include the f word and mention pointing a weapon.
