I finished Before We Were Trans and I cannot recommend this book enough.

So many questions that I hadn't found the language to ask were put into words and explored by the author Kit Heyam.

If you're at all interested in the subject of sex and gender and what it means to be human through time and across geographies, get your hands on this book.

I'm reading Kit Heyam's Before We Were Trans.

So far I'd say this author knows their stuff and they're putting it in a way that can crack even my binary-gendered skull.

While I've always respected the non-binary folk in my life, I can't say I've understood their experiences, just like many cis folk would struggle to understand mine as a trans man. This gender stuff can be tricky after all, so cheers to Kit Heyam for laying out the history for us!

The Long and Sometimes Lost History of Trans

To borrow a phrase from the photographer and activist Samra Habib, “We have always been here”—or, at least, people somewhat like us have always been here.
