@SimonCHulse There is a delicate balance to maintain. More recognition is valuable up to a point, but there is a risk that if #KingCharlesSpiderManKnowledgeEstimation becomes too popular it may attract the attention of King Charles himself, and obviously he has it within his power to render the entire field pointless. The discipline can only truly flourish after his reign is completed, and naturally we all hope that that time may not arrive soon.
@jackyan
@jackyan It is this wealth of possibilities that makes #KingCharlesSpiderManKnowledgeEstimation such an intriguing field of study.
@SimonCHulse

@jackyan Obviously this would all be different if Spider-man had ever been mentioned by Spike Milligan. It is well known that Charles is a huge fan of the Goon Show, and would certainly have staff whose job it is to investigate and explain every reference.

Obviously there's not a lot of work for them at the moment, but the King probably keeps them on retainer in case advances in technology somehow make it possible for the Goons to reunite and resume making hilarious comical radio plays.

@SimonCHulse

@jackyan Viz started in 1979, and wasn't available nationally until the late eighties. I reckon Harry reads every issue, but not Charles. Beano would be required reading for any future king, and it would be a foundational text in the King's understanding of what working class people are like.

I think Charles probably receives a dossier each day with information about what's going on at the moment for normal people. That has probably mentioned Spider-man from time to time when there is a popular movie or in background material on some popular superheroes. I reckon Charles finds this exasperating because of course he has _heard_ of the chap. He has been reading these bloody dossiers since he was ten years old. They don't need to explain who Spider-man is over again every time it comes up.

@isaacfreeman @SimonCHulse Beano and Viz, but not something from the colonies. Not for a future king. #KingCharlesSpiderManKnowledgeEstimation

@SimonCHulse It's certainly possible, no doubt. While I am not personally an adherent to the theory that King Charles has read at least one actual Spider-man comic, it is well within the mainstream of contemporary #KingCharlesSpiderManKnowledgeEstimation discourse.

In fact, this position is held by fully 50% of all people who used the hashtag this year. So you're in good company.

@jackyan

@isaacfreeman @jackyan I suspect that since he was a boy growing up in the Golden Age of Comics, you might perhaps be underestimating his knowledge of the subject. #KingCharlesSpiderManKnowledgeEstimation

@jackyan I was the first person to hashtag #KingCharlesSpiderManKnowledgeEstimation

For discussing how much King Charles knows about Spider-man.

I think King Charles will be familiar with the concept of Spider-man as a red and blue superhero who shoots webs, but he probably doesn't know any of the villains from the comics. He has likely met one or more actors who have been in Spider-man movies, and maybe been in the same room as Stan Lee. He has probably been informed at some point that Spider-man is secretly Peter Parker, but I reckon he has not retained that knowledge.
