I run a virtual IT training business out of Canada and LinkedIn should be my market, but I just can’t do LinkedIn any more. I’ve been posting stories from the people writing about the coup, but I get crickets.
I have a teensy network and small reach anyway, but the willful blindness of rich, American, “influencer” security and IT people who continue to post bland, everything-is-normal crap while their US president and his technofascist hellbeast dismantle their government and conspire against Ukraine, Canada, Europe, and, well, everyone with Putin is just making me vomit.
Yes, I’m GenX. I was a teen when nuclear annihilation was a daily possibility. I’m trained to be cranky and vocal and pissed off. I also have a degree in modern European history and a lot of IT experience.
The US coup, the technical dismantling of all government data security structure, exposing allies’ intelligence along with citizens’ private data to the banal evil of the Muskenjugend, and Musk taking control of every US government department all at once without any legitimate power, should have created a firestorm of professional resistance. At the very least there should be some tiny sound of disapproval. Some concern. A “tut.” But there’s just…nothing. Business as usual. Pre-programmed messages to increase “reach” as if any of it matters any more.
I’m just horrified. Sickened.
