"Mr. Trump didn't just happen to America. He was elected, twice – the second time after attempting a coup. That alone should tell us that something fundamental has changed in American society, that it is so broken that one half of it could knowingly put a degenerate lunatic in the White House just to spite the other half."
~ Andrew Coyne

Wow, they sewed the Apollo spacesuits with TREADLE control (one stitch at a time)
MIT Press: The Bra-and-Girdle Maker That Fashioned the Impossible for NASA
"...Key to these demands were NASA’s painstaking engineering standards, which pushed the very limits of the equipment and seamstresses’ own techniques. The tolerances allowed — less than a 64th of an inch in only one direction from the seam — meant that yard after yard of fabric was sewn to an accuracy smaller than the sewing needle’s eye. To achieve such precision, many women used a modified treadle that, instead of starting and stopping a Singer sewing machine’s operation, fired one stitch per footfall through the multiple layers of a suit’s surface. ..."

Longshot, but: are you in Canada and have a copy of a CD called "Great Northern" by the fusion jazz band Skywalk? I've been on the hunt for a physical copy, would love to buy it off you.
Ok, if you are particularly sensitive to the effects of irony, I suggest you take a seat before reading further.
In what is perhaps the most perfect encapsulation of everything that this experiment has shown so far, last night, deleted-user.com received over 400 emails from the same organization.
This was an EU based tech firm.
The purpose of those emails? They were from the company's legal team, advising users of updated terms and conditions, and the first update was:
"Data protection: we added language explaining how we handle personal data under the GDPR"
If anybody is wondering, mastodon.social server got DDoS’d yesterday but it had no impact on cyberplace.social (and other Mastodon servers) - no queue issues either. Everything just worked as expected.
In other news, “decentralised” network BlueSky has been down so much recently the status page doesn’t even work.
DDos (Distributed Denial of Service) attack against BlueSky a few days ago: The whole network goes down.
DDoS against mastodon.social today: Lots of users on that instance impacted, the rest of the Fediverse keeps on running, my instance doesn't really notice, messages will be queued up until mastodon.social is reachable again.
Both networks claim to be decentralised and federated. You decide :)
