Kentucky governor vetoes GOP abortion bill, says it undermines doctors and endangers pregnant women
Kentucky Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear has vetoed a bill touted by its Republican supporters as an attempt to bring clarity to the state's near-total abortion ban. In vetoing the bill Tuesday, Beshear said it would do the opposite. He says it would undermine the judgment of doctors and further imperil the lives of pregnant women in emergency situations. Beshear is an abortion-rights supporter seen as a potential candidate for the White House in 2028. He followed the advice of abortion-rights supporters who urged him to reject the measure. Kentucky’s GOP supermajority legislature will have a chance to override Beshear’s veto when lawmakers reconvene later this week.

Harry UnderwoodThis is obviously in favor of Republicans who just lost a governor’s race to the incumbent Democratic #AndyBeshear, but odd-year state elections are terrible anyway. Time for #Kentucky, #Virginia and #NewJersey to switch to even-year, preferably presidential-year state elections.
