Documentary by Mohammed Bakri (2024) 60 mins, OmEngUT

In 2002, the Palestinian actor and director Mohammed Bakri made a documentary about the brutal Israeli invasion of the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank.

The Israeli judiciary attempted to suppress this film, but failed to do so.

Now history seems to be repeating itself. In 2023, the Israeli army launched further destructive attacks on Jenin, and once again Mohammed Bakri was on the ground with his film crew to create a powerful testimony to the consequences of this devastation.

A testimony to violence and destruction, but also a portrait of the people of Jenin – fragile, yet not broken.

We encounter immeasurable suffering, but also the will to live and the dignity of people subjected to ongoing violence.

The great actor and director died in 2025 at the age of 72.

Im Jahr 2002 drehte der palästinensische Schauspieler und Regisseur Mohammed Bakri einen Dokumentarfilm über die brutale israelische Invasion im Flüchtlingslager Jenin im Westjordanland.

Die israelische Justiz versuchte diesen Film unsichtbar zu machen, was ihr nicht gelang.

Nun scheint sich die Geschichte zu wiederholen. Im Jahr 2023 startete die israelische Armee erneut zerstörerische Angriffe auf Jenin und wieder war Mohammed Bakri vor Ort, um mit seinem Filmteam ein eindringliches Zeugnis der Folgen dieser Verwüstung zu schaffen.

Ein Zeugnis von Gewalt und Zerstörung aber auch ein Portrait der Bewohner Jenins – zerbrechlich, doch nicht zerbrochen.

Uns begegnen unermessliches Leid, aber auch der Lebenswille und die Würde von Menschen, die fortgesetzter Gewalt ausgesetzt sind.

The award-winning docudrama by Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania tells the true story of a 5-year-old girl from the Gaza Strip.

Hind and her family fled Gaza City on 29 January 2024 when their car was fired upon by Israeli forces. All her relatives were killed in the attack.

Hind Rajab was left alone in the car for hours whilst she kept in contact with staff from the Palestinian Red Crescent over the phone.

Das preisgekrönte Dokudrama von der tunesischen Regisseurin Kaouther Ben Hania erzählt die wahre Geschichte eines 5-jährigen Mädchen aus dem Gazastreifen.

Hind und ihre Familie flohen am 29. Januar 2024 aus Gaza-Stadt, als ihr Auto von israelischen Streitkräften beschossen wurde. Dabei wurden alle ihre Verwandten getötet.

Hind Rajab blieb stundenlang allein im Auto zurück, während sie am Telefon mit Mitarbeitenden des Palästinensischen Roten Halbmond Kontakt hielt.
