I do find it odd though that journalists continue to stick to #Twitter like glue. I suppose it might be because it is (all) governments tool of choice for keeping in direct contact with the masses. This provides rich pickings for page-filler click-bait stories which inevitably contain a Tweet some Twat posted. And - dare I say it - the journalists themselves do enjoy the control, power and influence which Twitter definitely gives them. #JournalistPurge I am amused.

People acquire money and along with that comes power and influence. Then, once they become billionaires, they setup/buy a media company. Why? To maintain and increase control, power and influence which leads to more income. Musk ( #Twitter ), Gautam Adani ( owns 37% of India's #NDTV ), both right out of Murdoch's tried-and-tested playbook. Of course, it is the journalists who cook the media and if the chef's don't stick to your recipe, well! #JournalistPurge

The new normal.

As a direct result of #Musk 's #JournalistPurge new users per hour went from about 1000 per hour to 3500 and has now plateaued at around 2000. The network has responded beautifully. Four of the largest instances closed registrations, but things ran smoothly.

What can we conclude from the last 48 hours?

1. Mastodon can easily handle moderate surges.
2. Mastodon has huge untapped capacity for growth due to the large number of small and midsize instances.
