There are some nice ideas in the film, though the execution was (post Star Wars) merely average. Had Star Wars not come out, this would be something of a master work for its time...but the bar was raised too high.

this score (which heavily draws from 'space' motifs that Berry had come up with for Moonraker earlier in the year of '79) is an impressive display of mood and orchestral color.
