#RIP - #LaurentDeBrunhoff, the author of countless books starring #BabarTheElephant , has passed away at the age of 98.

He wrote his first #Babar story when he was a child, and his father #JeanDeBrunhoff illustrated it. Since then, Babar has gone on to become one of the most famous characters in #ChildrensBooks, and has even starred in two TV shows and several movies.

Laurent de Brunhoff, ‘Babar’ heir and author, dies at age 98

"Babar" author Laurent de Brunhoff, who revived his father's popular picture book series about an elephant-king, has died at 98 after being in hospice care for two weeks. De Brunhoff was a Paris native who moved to the U.S. in the 1980s. He died Friday at his home in Key West, Florida. Just 12 years old when his father, Jean de Brunhoff, died of tuberculosis, Laurent drew upon his own gifts as a painter and storyteller and as an adult released dozens of books about the elephant who reigns over Celesteville, among them "Babar at the Circus" and "Babar's Yoga for Elephants."
