If anyone using the #NewStickney #JapaneseKeyboard #KeyboardLayout for #Kana entry (available in the IBUS Hiragana IME on Linux) and really wanted to try this on macOS, it is now possible with Karabiner Elements rules - testers of this proof-of-principle welcome, see https://github.com/esrille/new-stickney/issues/4

#JapaneseKeyboard question: Does anywhere sell off-the-shelf (rather than custom order) #KeyCaps labelled with the #Romaji rather than JIS Kana layout (which I don't use)?

i.e. Not: Q/た W/て E/い R/す T/か Y/ん …

I want the Romaji #Hiragana labels: Q W/わ E/え R/ら T/た Y/や …

Or, the Romaji #Katakana: Q W/ワ E/エ R/ラ T/タ Y/ヤ …

Maybe even both. Keys not used for Romaji like C, J, Q would have just the letter. And for X and L (prefix for little), maybe X/小?

Found an intriguing #JapaneseKeyboard project, a DIY #ChordingKeyboard for hiragana and katakana: #KanaChord https://github.com/maccody/KanaChord

Right hand gets vowels あいうえお (and ん), which can be pressed together with the left hand to select the other #Gojūon dimension (かさたなはまやらわ). Thus い(i) plus か(ka) gives き(ki). Ingenious - and it lights up for bad combinations!

The author later extended it with a touchscreen for kanji selection, clever but a bit slow? https://hackaday.com/2024/10/05/introducing-the-kanachord-plus-keyboard-カナコード・プラス・キーボード/?preview_id=725437 https://github.com/maccody/KanaChordPlus

Went down a rabbit hole looking at keyboards on #AliExpress → number pads → mini-keyboards for shortcut keys and jog-dials (e.g. scrolling, zooming, volume). Some of these have up to 15 keys…

And then I thought of #JapaneseKeyboard options, and if anyone made a physical kana #FlickInput thumb keyboard like on smart phones (e.g #godan / #mozc)?

Or perhaps if these can be configured for up to 5 multiple presses, could map first key to あいうえお etc like older phones and then pass to IME for kanji?

Mobius Keyboard Wastes Little Space

What is with all the wasted space on keyboards? There’s a whole back side just sitting there doing nothing. But how can you use the back at the same time as the front? Just when we think Goog…
