From First Heavy Metal Church Of Christ.
Most Christian books and most sermons aren’t about what Jesus has done—they’re about what you should be doing. Read more. Pray harder. Be a better spouse. Serve more. Sin less. It’s the same old grind, just baptized in religious language. We slap Jesus’ name on a self-help message and call it gospel, but it’s not good news—it’s soul-crushing law dressed up in spiritual clichés.
Let’s be honest: most of us are burned out on “do more, try harder” Christianity. It doesn’t heal us. It hides us. It doesn’t free us. It burdens us. We’re told grace is the starting point, but then it’s like God hands the reins back to us and says, “Don’t screw this up.” That’s not Christianity. That’s religion. That’s death.
The gospel is not about you climbing your way to God—it’s about God coming all the way down to you. It’s not about your grip on Him—it’s about His grip on you. Jesus didn’t come for the strong, the moral, or the put-together. He came for the weak, the guilty, and the screwed-up. People like me. People like you.
The message of Christianity isn’t “get it together.” But rather “It is finished.” Rest in that. There’s nothing left to prove. #itisfinished
