#Israel / Convicted Duma Murderer Ben-Uliel Granted Transfer to Religious Prison Wing Amid Growing Support

Amiram Ben-Uliel is an Israeli man convicted of murdering three members of the Palestinian Dawabsheh family in a 2015 arson attack in the occupied West Bank. He was sentenced to three life terms plus 20 years for killing 18-month-old Ali Dawabsheh and his parents, and severely injuring their 4-year-old son. His conviction was upheld by Israel's Supreme Court in 2022.

Recently, a crowdfunding campaign raised over 1.2 million NIS to support him, improve his prison conditions and potentially secure his release. Some right-wing Israeli politicians have expressed support for him, with one lawmaker calling him a "holy, righteous man" despite his conviction.

In a new development, Israel's Shin Bet security service has approved Ben-Uliel's transfer to the religious wing of Ayalon Prison, following requests from his lawyer. This decision came after discussions between the Shin Bet's Jewish Division and leading rabbis from the religious Zionist movement who advocated for Ben-Uliel. Notable figures involved in these efforts include Rabbi Yaakov Medan from Gush Etzion and Rabbi Dov Lior, who is the spiritual leader of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Additionally, it was reported in #Haaretz that according to security sources, the Israel Prison Service Commissioner Kobe Yacobi and Ben-Gvir's chief of staff, Chanamel Dorfman, have visited Ben-Uliel in his cell on two separate occasions.
