Orrore a San Diego, negli Stati Uniti, dove due adolescenti hanno aperto il fuoco presso il Centro islamico della città, uccidendo tre uomini. I due ragazzi, rispettivamente di 17 e 18 anni, dopo l’assalto armato si sono barricati in auto dove si sono tolti la vita.
Stando a quanto fanno sapere le autorità della California, tra le vittime dei due killer c’è anche una guardia di sicurezza. Proprio quest’ultimo, con il suo tempesivo intervento che, però, gli è costata la vita, sarebbe riuscito a mettere in fuga gli attentatori, di fatto limitando le perdite umane.
A raccontare cos’è successo è il capo della polizia di San Diego, Scott Wahl, secondo cui è stata aperta un’indagine in cui si ipotizza un “crimine d’odio”. Wahl ha raccontato che il dipartimento di Polizia aveva ricevuto la segnalazione su “un minore in fuga” dalla madre di uno dei sospettati. La donna aveva riferito di tendenze suicide del figlio, decidendo di dare l’allarme perché il ragazzo si era allontanato con le sue armi e la sua auto, insieme a un amico, e indossava abiti mimetici.

La segnalazione della sparatoria al Centro Islamico è arrivata proprio mentre gli agenti di polizia erano alla ricerca del minore. Giunti sul posto, gli agenti si sono trovati davanti a una scena da film horror. Dalle loro indagini è emersa la sensazione, come racconta lo stesso Wahl, “che la guardia sia riuscita almeno a contenere la situazione nell’area davanti alla moschea penso sia giusto dire che le sue azioni siano state eroiche e che senza dubbio abbia salvato delle vite”.
Dopo l’attentato, il direttore del Centro islamico, che comprende anche una scuola, l’imam Taha Hassane, ha dichiarato: “È qualcosa che non ci saremmo mai aspettati, ma allo stesso tempo, l’intolleranza religiosa e l’odio che purtroppo esistono nella nostra nazione sono senza precedenti. Tutti noi abbiamo la responsabilità di diffondere la cultura della tolleranza”.

Horror in San Diego, USA, where two teenagers opened fire at the city’s Islamic Center, killing three men. The two boys, aged 17 and 18, after the armed assault barricaded themselves in cars where they took their own lives.
According to California authorities, among the victims of the two killers is also a security guard. This latter one, with his hasty intervention which, however, cost him his life, reportedly managed to escape the attackers, effectively limiting the human losses.
San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl, who spoke about what happened, stated that an investigation has been opened, suggesting a “hate crime.” Wahl said that the Police Department had received a report about “a runaway minor” from the mother of one of the suspects. The woman reported suicidal tendencies in her son, deciding to alert authorities because the boy had left with his weapons and car, along with a friend, and was wearing camouflage clothing.

The report of the shooting at the Islamic Center arrived just as police officers were searching for the minor. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers found themselves facing a horror movie scene. Their investigation revealed the feeling, as Wahl himself says, “that the guard managed to at least contain the situation in the area in front of the mosque. It is right to say that his actions were heroic and that without a doubt he saved lives.”
After the attack, the director of the Islamic Center, which also includes a school, Imam Taha Hassane, stated: “It is something we would never have expected, but at the same time, religious intolerance and hatred that unfortunately exist in our nation are unprecedented. We all have a responsibility to spread the culture of tolerance.”

Le riprese aeree in tv e sui social mostrano una decina di bambini che si tenevano per mano e venivano accompagnati fuori dal parcheggio del centro, circondato da decine di veicoli della polizia.
