Due barche a vela scomparse mentre trasportavano aiuti umanitari dal sud del Messico a Cuba sono arrivate all’Avana sabato pomeriggio, poche ore dopo che la marina messicana aveva dichiarato di averle individuate giorni dopo che avevano perso i contatti a causa del maltempo.
Le imbarcazioni, con a bordo almeno otto persone, erano partite da Isla Mujeres, nel sud del Messico, il 20 marzo e avevano poi perso i contatti, suscitando preoccupazione in Messico e a Cuba. Una volta arrivati sull’isola, Adnaan Stumo, coordinatore del convoglio di barche a vela, ha affermato che il maltempo era responsabile del ritardo, ringraziando la marina messicana per il supporto e per essersi assicurata che stessero bene, aggiungendo che erano “felici” di iniziare a consegnare gli aiuti ai cubani sull’isola.

Two sailboats missing while transporting humanitarian aid from southern Mexico to Cuba arrived in Havana on Saturday afternoon, just a few hours after the Mexican navy announced it had located them, days after they lost contact due to bad weather.

The vessels, carrying at least eight people, had departed from Isla Mujeres, in southern Mexico, on March 20th and had then lost contact, raising concerns in Mexico and Cuba. Once arrived on the island, Adnan Stumo, coordinator of the sailing fleet, stated that the bad weather was responsible for the delay, thanking the Mexican navy for its support and for ensuring they were well, adding that they were “happy” to begin delivering aid to the Cubans on the island.
