The Dutch Internet Standardisation Platform (Internet.nl) is proud to be one of the community's founding members and to support the community in 2026. We will publish a public summary of the meeting on our website in due course.

In the meantime, we recommend reading Nicolas Fiumarelli's post, which provides an excellent account of the meeting and idea behind it: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/nfiumarelli_gistc-experiences-implementation-activity-7447474573689921536-0DnK

Starting the day at 6 AM for the Global Internet Standards Testing Community meeting, and well worth it! 😊 ☕ #GISTC continues to evolve as a key multistakeholder initiative, launched in the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) ecosystem just las year (2025), and aimed at strengthening digital trust and resilience through the adoption of Internet standards. This is a growing community focused on improving how we measure, share, and scale the deployment of modern Internet standards. Building on the success of Internet.nl, an open-source testing platform now reused across all regions, this community enables stakeholders to exchange #experiences, learn from #implementation challenges, and support each other in driving #adoption at #national and #regional levels. Today’s session reflected that spirit. We explored updates around Dutch Internet Standards Platform (Internet.nl), including a very practical and insightful walkthrough on how to deploy and run it locally using Docker, thanks to Wouter Kobes, Johan Bloemberg, and the technical team behind it. A special mention to Patrick Koetter (sys4 AG) for his excellent presentation. His work around #DNS, email security, and protocols such as #DANE continues to highlight how foundational trust mechanisms must be strengthened across the Internet stack. We also had a very strong contribution from Per Thorsheim, presenting Norway’s experience with standards deployment and measurements across sectors such as banking, municipalities, and regional infrastructure and a profound discussion on the balance between recommendations vs. policy requirements, and how different governance approaches impact adoption. One key takeaway from the discussion: 👉 Measuring the way down ccTLDs is not always enough. In many countries, some of the most widely used services operate under .com, or .net domains. I highlighted complementary approaches such as IP-based geolocation (e.g. #geofeeds), that can be used to improve national-level measurements. More broadly, tools like Internet.nl, Top.br (NIC.br), and Internet Society Pulse are making Internet security increasingly measurable and auditable, enabling further work such as the Internet Society LAC Measurement Working Group. A special mention as well to Maarten Botterman for presenting the work of the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise (GFCE), highlighting the importance of capacity building and international collaboration in cybersecurity. Today, standards such as: #RPKI and Route Origin Validation (#ROV), #ASPA, #DNSSEC, Modern #TLS configuration and even #PQC readiness can now be tested and validated in simple and scalable ways. Thanks to all participants, including the great moderator Alena Muravska, Bart K., Dave Buis, Rick van Rooijen, Benjamin W. Broersma, Elger Jonker Joris Le Blansch, Martin Kutilek, Gilberto Zorello, Flávio Rech Wagner, Santosh Pandit, for contributing to a more secure and resilient Internet. Looking forward to continuing this work. #GISTC

On Tuesday, 7 April, the Global Internet Standards Testing Community (GISTC) held its 3rd online meeting, which was chaired by Alena Muravska from @ripencc.

The GISTC brings together organisations from all over the world around #InternetStandards the Internet.nl test tool and open-source code.

Its goal is to enable knowledge exchange, coordination of efforts, and of course to collaboratively improve the adoption of modern internet standards like #IPv6, #DNSSEC, #DANE, #DMARC, and #RPKI.

Heb jij ervaring met moderne Git-oplossingen? Deel je tips en ideeën hier. 👇

DebugBear: What is JPEG XL: do we really need another image format?. “In 2018, the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) issued a call for proposals for the ‘next-generation image compression’. Numerous proposals were submitted, but only two were selected to proceed, one by Cloudinary (FUIF) and one by Google (PIK). The two were eventually combined to create JPEG XL (often shortened to JXL), […]

Valid point. The mastodon.social instance already seems to support inbound IPv6: https://en.internet.nl/site/mastodon.social/3738895/#siteipv6
However, for actual interaction and federation via IPv6 outbound support is needed as well and the latter indeed seems to be missing. Hopefully they can fix this.

We were happy to be present in the "Modern Email" devroom at @fosdem!

Email is the workhorse of digital communication and it is important to keep our implementations up to date and interoperable.

Benjamin Broersma (@forumstandaardisatie) gave a talk on email configuration, highlighting some useful testing tools, and common config errors.

The video recording is now available at https://fosdem.org/2026/schedule/event/H9GEBT-fos-check-tooling-for-mail-config/.

Enjoy watching, and questions are welcome!

Ars Technica: Google temporarily disabled YouTube’s advanced captions without warning. “Google has now posted a brief statement and confirmed to Ars that it has not ended support for SRV3. However, all is not well. The company says it has temporarily limited the serving of SRV3 caption files because they may break playback for some users.”
