Many of my Iranian friends hope that these attacks will lead to the collapse of the regime. It is, however, doubtful that a regime change can be achieved in this way. It seems to me that, as is often the case, a country goes to war when it has internal problems from which it wants to divert attention (read: the corruption allegations against Netanyahu). This operation seems to me to be a political marketing ploy. Trump just wanted to jump on the victor’s bandwagon to gain short-term gains, without paying any attention to the long term. And further disrupting the already crumbling global order is, in his eyes, a nice bonus. Even if it means moving closer to World War III. So much for someone who promised not to engage in “forever wars”.
