You'd think that the image that was published weeks or months before would stay in the results & prevent duplicates from being indexed?
Guess again.
I did a search on "my name art" and lo and behold, my more recent artworks are all pulled from Facebook, likely because it's a "more reputable" domain than my own domain.
So I suppose there's no other way to force Google to prioritize my original images besides not posting them on social media at all 🙄

I publish art on my own website first to ensure that images on *my domain* get indexed & served in search results when people look up my name or a keyword related to the artwork title.
I stopped posting my art anywhere else before I’ve verified that my original image is indexed.
Only then do I post on Mastodon and #Facebook.
