Da ich grade wieder über ein KI-generiertes Bild in einem Post einer Person der NGO-Welt gestolpert bin:

Ein kurzer Rant zu #AI #imageGeneration:

In Anbetracht dass wir 6 von 9 planetaren Grenzen bereits überschritten haben, müssen wir uns fragen lassen, ob es angemessen ist, die elektrische Energie, die ein Kühlschrank in einer halben Stunde verbraucht + eine Flasche Wasser am anderen Ende der Welt zu verbrauchen, um eine mehr oder weniger hübsche Illustration zu generieren (die im obigen Fall nicht einmal den Namen der Organisation richtig schreiben konnte).

Ganz zu schweigen von den Unmengen an verbrauchten Ressourcen und ausgebeuteten Clickworkern, die die Modelle durch ihr aufwändiges Training als Rucksack an sich tragen. Und die gigantischen Mengen an verschlissenen GPUs, die in den kommenden 2-4 Jahren als nahezu unrecyclebarer E-Waste auf uns zu kommen werden.

Zwei ehrliche Fragen also: Wäre mein Post ohne die Illustration so viel schlechter gewesen? Wie viel mehr haben wir uns 2014 im Internet gelangweilt, als wir noch nicht mit einem Mausklick die Möglichkeit hatten, Posts durch ein Stück bunte Planetenverheizung aufzuhübschen?

Natürlich sind wir soziale Wesen, Trends zu boykottieren ist leichter gesagt als getan und kostet außersem Reichweite, die wir für gute Zwecke dringend brauchen.

Ich finde, hierüber sollten wir - vor allem in unseren Bubbles #SocialEconomy, #ImpactBusiness, #NGOs, #SIGU, #SocialStartups - dringend anfangen offen zu sprechen!
