After a lot of time and stress/pain - partly from what #IceDrive support gave me and partly through my own research, I can finally actually test the app.

Apparently, there are issues in older versions of QTWebEngine/#Chromium and #NVIDIA drivers.

Launching the AppImage with QT_QUICK_BACKEND=software and QTWEBENGINE_DISABLE_GPU=1

enabled the app to load.

That's one headache done.

It does make me wonder if the LOTRO store is an old chromium version as well, though.

Okay, desperate call to any techy #Linux people. I've had a support thread since February sometime with #IceDrive, because the app renders with a black background.

We've checked NVIDIA drivers and switching hardware/software rendering. Nada.

It's something to do with "QTWebEngine" not working with machine in this specific app. I just installed a different QT-dependent app and it worked AOK.

I'm on X11, but can occasionally get it to load under Cinnamon (Wayland).

Anyone out there have ideas?

Well, something's messed up on my graphics as FFXIV wouldn't load and #LOTRO sort of worked but then froze up for 15-30 seconds at a time.

Reverting graphics drivers, which I'd been trying to update because #IceDrive support think I can't load their app due to graphics driver incompatibilities. Thankfully, that's my secondary backup system.

So I'm downgrading my drivers to what they were and hoping I can play SOMETHING.

Well, I've found the issue with #IceDrive. And lost 2hours of my evening.

Thankfully, they're not the cloud system I've paid for. I was considering it when they had discounted lifetime options. But after this experience, and them clearly not being able to understand my issues, I'm glad they're a secondary service.

I haven't "fixed" the issue because I'm not a software dev. But I have a workaround that proves where the issue is. 

Ice Drive is not bad; it's fast and neat.
The prices are not that expensive, either. No ads and trackers.

Except, encryption is a paid feature 😬
and it's not open source.
