I've been using a domain registrar called iwantmyname for years. They started in New Zealand, but sold out to CentralNic in 2019.

Well, it's time to transfer it all out. It took 8 days to get a reply to an extremely simple support ticket, which was then closed before I could follow up.

It's a shame, but that's the way everything goes these days isn't it?

This should serve as a lesson for everyone.

The scenario as described by "the one running itch.io" is the company that's acting on behalf of Funko Pop filed a false report, which was probably auto-generated. Then IWantMyName took down the site, probably through an automated process lacking skilled human oversight.

Automation replacing important role that should have people doing them seems like a valid thing to complain about here.

People who know what they're doing don't respond to an unexpected legal notice by obstructing the entire business of an established client with a decent record, and people who know what they're doing don't send phishing accusations for a copyright claim.

These companies should employ people who know how to do their jobs and not rely overmuch on automation.

If it turns out after the real scenario is better understood that a person made any of the bad decisions involved in the site hiatus? This point remains.

#itchio ist zurzeit down, weil #Funko eine "Brand Protection Software" namens #BrandShield einsetzt, die einen falschen Phishing Report an den Registrar #IWantMyName, der die Domain itch.io verwaltet, gesendet hat.

Der Registrar hat die Meldung ungeprüft und ohne Einspruch von itch.io zu berücksichtigen umgesetzt. Die Protection Software hat einen Fehler gemacht (da war wohl auch #AI involviert) und Funko ist Funko 💩
