Was ist los mit der #Atlantikzirkulation?

Heute möchte ich ein paar aktuelle Gedanken zur Abschwächung und zum #Kipppunkt der atlantischen meridionalen #Umwälzzirkulation (AMOC) zusammenfassen. Ich habe vorletzte Woche an einer zweitägigen #AMOC-Sitzung auf der #IUGG-Konferenz in #Berlin teilgenommen, es gibt interessante neue #Fachpublikation​en, und im Lichte dieser Erkenntnisse habe ich meine Einschätzung etwas geändert. Hier sind zehn Punkte, angefangen bei den Grundlagen, so dass ihr leicht zu den Aspekten springen könnt, die euch interessieren.

This post on #Antarctic #seaIce by @ZLabe is an excellent run-diwn of the current state of knowledge - and the power of saying I don't know! -
I spent several days at #IUGG trying to find someone who did know and eventually concluded that actually noone knows for sure, though there are a lot of interesting ideas...

(And, as Zack says, it's unlikely to be just one thing and more likely to be a complex story)

3/ Wer sind die denn jetzt? Was wollen die? Was mit Klima? Schon wieder? Und wieso haben die weiße Kittel an? Haben die sonst nicht immer orangene Westen an?

Ach, kiek, da steht ja was drauf: #ScientistRebellion. Mein Gott, jetzt die Wissenschaftler auch noch! Und sogar noch Frauen! Vielleicht denken die ja, wir hätten das noch immer nicht richtig verstanden und machen deshalb merkwürdige Dinge mit Denkmälern.

Muss doch gleich mal gucken, was da so steht, an dem Denkmal. Aber ich warte lieber noch, bis die weg sind. Die sehen sehr gefährlich aus und ich habe neulich in der Zeitung gelesen, dass die Klimaleute immer radikaler werden.

Ending my #IUGG23 with this article from @robinsonmeyer in @heatmap_news The title is perhaps a little overdramatic but I agree with pretty much everything in it and what I've learned at #IUGG pretty much confirms.it.

We're at the end of the beginning of #ClimateScience, now it's time to prepare for.the next phase.

Great talk by Veronica Tollenaar on #BlueIce areas in #Antarctica that somehow manages to unite meteorites, machine learning, satellite data and the impact of #ClimateChange ..

It turns out that warming temperatures help the #meteorites melt their way into the ice and be lost.
