May I present to you *drum roll*: Huernia lenewtonii in flower!
No smell of carrion whatsoever and holy shit was this photo awkward to take as the flower is pointing straight down. Couldn't get good lighting😢
Huernia lenewtonii is about to bloom! Or maybe not. Every day for a few weeks already I've told to myself: "Soon™".
At least the buds have an alienlike aesthetic to them ;P

Alt: col photo on white. Amid several of the spiky stems, one flower. The petals are fused into one five-pointed-star shape, deep velvety red and spiky. The stamens and pistil are a complicated structure in the middle, gold and near-black. They are fly pollinated and emit a lovely trash-themed perfume.
SpookyThe #huernia comes from South Africa. Plants in the huernia and stapelia genus often have flowers that smell like rotting meat to attract flies. I have several and I’ve never noticed a smell from any of them. As far as I know these dont have a dormancy but they prefer partial shade.
