I queried everyone with the intent of trying all the suggestions and reporting back. Two folks (and several others afterwards) immediately suggested Quod Libet as their favorite. So I started with it.

With a number of track layouts, an EXCELLENT tagging system, and deep configuration changes with a number of plugins, this might have pegged my wants in one. It's good.

I'm still going to try the others suggested...but they have a high bar to clear. Quod Libet (I know...I don't like the name either) is really good. :) 💕

There's a...timbre (oomph) to the music played through these speakers. It's so good. They sound muuuuch better than the foamy failures in the previous G3's.

It would be cool to keep this setup somewhere in a corner of the shop to play tunes...maybe even locate a FireWire iPod to pair with it. 😌

And while I deeply miss the CRT of the G3...this machine is so danged zippy. :)

I wondered if SomaFM might have been the culprit, so I loaded some MP3s into iTunes and...it's worse. Any bit of bass makes the speakers rattle incessantly...they're definitely busted.

Headphone warning again.

I'm gonna set this iMac aside for now...but I have others! I'll boot one of them up this evening when the temps get cooler. :)
