Cool, so. It turns out YOU can create your own copy of the BIOS ROM for the IBM Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA) using the zip on this archive.org upload https://archive.org/details/6277356-ega-bios-source/

It contains the listings (from the IBM EGA manual i suppose, which included them), and shell scripts to compile them. The script runs on Unix and uses the `emu2` program to run the text-mode DOS programs (MASM.EXE and LINK.EXE which are included in the zip). I had to clone and compile emu2 myself (just like the good old days).

Suppose I want to start designing cases for my homebrew computers: bit tired of screwing naked PCBs on wooden boards and call it a day.

I don't have a 3D printer, nor a CNC, nor a laser cutter. I'll have to outsource the production.

The only thing I can do in-house is the design.

So I'm asking all of you: what do you think would be the best course?

2D CAD and then design the panels so they can be joined/glued together?
Have a go at some 3D design tool and try my luck with 3D printing?

Any other idea?
Any software you would recommend for the specific use-case (i have a bit of experience with LibreCAD)?

Slooowly working through all the labels.
And I will have to do it all again with the second set, to try a different coating technique.

Still, it really looks usable!

Going to try that failed stream again tonight, having fixed the silly bug in the assembler that ground proceedings to a halt two weeks ago.

Same Balj-time, same Balj-channel for some faffing around with the guts of a Forth interpreter for a homebrew CPU: https://twitch.tv/baljemmett at 1800 BST.

Back on System/1 tinkering for tonight's stream, in about 35 minutes. I want to fix the error reporting in the Forth implementation so that it doesn't trip me up next time I make a typo on stream, and then we're going to look at what needs to be done to let it use the keyboard driver we wrote last time we looked at it.

That'll be at https://twitch.tv/baljemmett from 1800 BST if you fancy watching a sweaty man do battle with a homemade computer and toolchain...

Returning to System/1 for this evening's stream; in about an hour I'll be sitting down to see if I can write a keyboard driver for it in Forth. The basics should be pretty straightforward but I'm not sure about integrating it into the interpreter...

Join me from 1800 BST at https://twitch.tv/baljemmett/ if you enjoy watching people flail around in languages they rarely use whilst also hoping their dodgy homemade computer stays working long enough to finish the job!

Going to be streaming some more System/1 stuff this evening, picking up where our demonstration was interrupted last time and then building an adapter to hook up its keyboard for testing.

That'll be at https://twitch.tv/baljemmett from 1800 BST, and if the live demo doesn't work this time there'll simply be nothing for it but to cry.

Going live in about 40 minutes to give people a look at my homebrew CPU, System/1, and even (deities of the live demo permitting) show it running something boringly trivial.

I think this'll be the first time I've shown it in public when it's running interactively, so if that sounds interesting - or you just like watching live demos go up in flames - it'll be at https://twitch.tv/baljemmett from 1800 BST.
