The landmine-sniffing rats are continuing their slow and steady task of demining Cambodia (and other places). Here's an article about a rat named Ronin setting a record for most mines discovered (109). The previous record holder had cleared 71 landmines by the time of his retirement.

Grr, yet another reason to despise Trump and Musk: The gutting of USAID is jeopardizing APOPO's wonderful work, using African giant pouched rats (very cute!), as well as dogs, to detect landmines and diagnose tuberculosis! Please donate or support in any way you can! If you're in the US, maybe you could call your elected representatives. I donated €25, which is apparently enough to clear up to 25m² of minefield. #USAID #FuckDOGE #FuckTrump #APOPO #HeroRats

#Apopo, the company behind #HeroRats is facing difficulties due to USAID budget cuts.

If you're looking for an awesome company to donate some money to, this definitely is one.
They are training gambian pouched rats to sniff out landmines and tuberculosis.

@monkeyben I love Gambian giant rats!!! I wish we could have them as companion rats in the US.

How can anyone justify using these devices that kill indiscriminately?

Rats get a bad rap. These landmine-sniffing rodents are helping change that | CBC Radio

You should clap when you see a rat, not shriek, according to wildlife care specialist Cari Inserra. While the creatures are most commonly considered to be pests, Inserra wants people to know that rats are actually saving lives across the world.
