Raw Materials & the Green Transition
https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_lHvo0_WYRCSyI7kcafRzQA
Green transition needs critical raw materials. In order to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent, secure and sustainable access to necessary raw materials is essential. The EU Commission plans to present a draft law on critical raw materials by spring 2023. Raw materials are indispensable for our daily life. Millions of jobs in Europe depend on the availability of raw materials. They supply the industrial sector and all downstream branches of the economy. Raw Materials are also currently indispensable for the Green transformation in Europe as in the production of chips for electric vehicles and for technologies for renewable energies to name some examples. Nevertheless, we must ensure that these critical raw materials are sourced in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. And, we have to think about long term alternatives of using critical raw materials. A more resilient supply chain and a strong and sustainable level playing field in Europe must be ensured that does not harm our environment. These topics with regard to the new legislative EU proposal on Raw Materials will be discussed with: Dr. Franziska Brantner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, and Member of the German Bundestag, Peter Handley, European Commission, Energy Intensive Industries, Raw Materials, Hydrogen (GROW.I.1), Michael Reckordt from PowerShift e.V., Chris Heron, Director for Communication and Public Affairs at Eurometaux, Henrike Hahn, Member of the European Parliament (The Greens/EFA), deputy speaker and industrial policy spokeswoman of the German delegation. Moderated by Silke Wettach, EU-Correspondent of WirtschaftsWoche. The Webinar will take place in English and will be translated into German simultaneously.
