β’ As of Oct. 4, more than $18 million has already been given to survivors through FEMA Individual Assistance.
- There are currently 51 search and rescue teams from local, state and federal agencies from across the nation active in Western North Carolina.
- Over 1.4 million pounds of goods has been delivered to impacted areas.
The Pack Horse #Library Project was a Works Progress Administration (WPA) program that delivered books to remote regions in the #Appalachian #Mountains between 1935 and 1943.
#Women were very involved in the project which eventually had 30 different #libraries serving 100,000 people.

The Frontier Nursing Service (FNS) provides #healthcare services to rural, underserved populations since 1925, and educates nurse-midwives since 1939.

A group of nurses are working to transport supplies and medical help to people in difficult-to-reach areas with an old-fashioned means of travel: horseback.
They had approximately 25 horses and people staging to help out.
Being a Foster Mom, in the past, I can't even begin to tell you the trauma these families must be going through.
