La mort de Pompidou, le 2 avril 1974, ça me rappelle cette couverture magnifique de Gébé, la tête de Pompidou bourré de cortisone à la télé, alors que sa maladie était un sujet tabou. Je ne lisais pas encore Charlie, l’hebdo qui a peu de temps après eu une place importante dans mon adolescence, dans « ma formation intellectuelle », je dirais pompeusement.

J’étais interne en Autriche, et je suivais les infos avec mon transistor, sur les grandes ondes. J’allais suivre la campagne présidentielle comme ça, le débat Mitterrand-Giscard. J’avais 15 ans et j’étais pour Mitterrand (comme mon père). L’Autriche était social-démocrate (Kreiski), mais l’Union de la gauche en France, avec les communistes, ça en faisait flipper beaucoup – par la situation géographique de l’Autriche, certainement. Un de mes camarades m’a dit que, si la gauche passait, mon tourne-disque stéréo me serait confisqué. J’ai trouvé ça ridicule et drôle, mais ça dit les fantasmes que pouvait éveiller la perspective de l’arrivée des « socialo-communistes » au pouvoir en France.

Ce matin, je me dis que Pompidou avait un nom de gimmick par Marilyn dans Some Like It Hot, et j’ai eu envie d’écouter l’original de la chanson qu’elle a reprise pour le film, I Wanna Be Loved by You par Helen Kane en 1928. C’était pour une comédie musicale. Deux ans plus tard, Helen Kane a inspiré le personnage de Betty Boop.
