C’è qualcosa nel tweed che sa di eleganza rilassata, di passeggiate nella brughiera e di tè caldo sorseggiato davanti al camino. Ma sapevi che esiste addirittura una giornata dedicata a questo iconico tessuto? Preparati: oggi celebriamo il Tweed Day, una ricorrenza tanto chic quanto curiosa!

📅 Che cos’è il Tweed Day e quando si festeggia?

Il Tweed Day si celebra ogni anno il 3 aprile. Non è una giornata ufficiale riconosciuta a livello internazionale, ma è una di quelle celebrazioni “non ufficiali” che conquistano gli appassionati di moda, tradizione e stile vintage.

È il giorno perfetto per rispolverare cappotti, blazer e cappelli in tweed e sentirsi un po’ protagonisti di un romanzo inglese.

🎩 Perché proprio il 3 aprile?

Il 3 aprile 1778 nacque William Magear Tweed, noto anche come “Boss Tweed”, un influente politico statunitense dell’Ottocento. E qui arriva il bello:
👉 Il Tweed Day è un gioco di parole! Non celebra direttamente il tessuto… ma sfrutta il cognome “Tweed” per creare una giornata divertente e un po’ ironica.

Col tempo, però, gli amanti della moda hanno trasformato questa ricorrenza in un vero e proprio omaggio al tessuto scozzese per eccellenza.

Il tweed è un tessuto in lana ruvida, resistente e caldissimo, tradizionalmente associato alla Scozia e alla campagna britannica.

Alcune curiosità super chic:

• Nasce per proteggere dal freddo e dalla pioggia delle Highlands
• Il più famoso è l’Harris Tweed, ancora oggi prodotto a mano nelle isole scozzesi
• I suoi motivi (spigato, pied de poule, check) sono diventati simboli di eleganza senza tempo
• È stato amato da aristocratici, professori universitari… e stilisti di alta moda

🕰️ Quando è nato il Tweed Day?

Non esiste una data ufficiale precisa della “prima celebrazione”.
Il Tweed Day è nato come ricorrenza informale negli Stati Uniti, probabilmente diffusa online e tra appassionati di curiosità storiche e moda vintage nei primi anni 2000.

Da semplice gioco di parole, si è trasformato in una celebrazione globale dello stile classico.

🌍 Curiosità dal mondo (con un pizzico di ironia!)

• In alcune città universitarie inglesi, studenti e professori celebrano indossando interi outfit in tweed… anche sotto il sole primaverile 😄
• Esistono eventi chiamati “Tweed Rides”: eleganti giri in bicicletta in abiti vintage (rigorosamente in tweed!)
• Il tweed è tornato di moda ciclicamente, dimostrando che lo stile vintage… non passa mai di moda
• Nei film e nelle serie TV, è spesso il tessuto preferito di detective, scrittori e personaggi un po’ eccentrici

✨ Perché amiamo il Tweed Day?

Perché è una giornata che unisce:

• storia
• moda
• ironia
• e un pizzico di teatralità

È la scusa perfetta per sentirsi eleganti senza esagerare, per riscoprire capi intramontabili e per ricordare che lo stile, quello vero, non segue le mode… le attraversa.

Il Tweed Day ci invita a rallentare, indossare qualcosa di caldo e senza tempo e, perché no, immaginare di essere in un romanzo inglese.

Perché in fondo, tra una trama di lana e una storia curiosa, il tweed non è sda considerare solo un tessuto… ma pensare che è un vero stato d’animo. 🧥✨

Our first go at doing some basic upholstery. Dining room chairs have had all new foam and the old acrylic fabric replaced with a lovely Harris tweed. Now much more comfy! Tweed from Carloway Mill, supplied locally by the Wool and Needlecraft Centre of Oban, foam from Advanced Upholstery Services.
