Rabbi Daniel Bouskila will be explaining the background to a Moroccan Kina, or lamentation, while Dayan Daniel Kada will talk about how Syrian Jews observe this solemn day. Etan Shelemay will tell us how Adenite Jews mark Tisha B'Ab.

Listeners will be able to share their specific memories of Tisha B’Ab, the food eaten before and after the fast, and folk customs.

Harif: Preserving the history and culture of Jews from the Middle East & North Africa

The Jewish heroes of Operation Torch. Tuesday 9 April, 7 pm UK, 9 pm Israel, 2 pm ET. Joint event between Harif and the Yad Ben Zvi Institute in Jerusalem. The story of the Jewish and French resistance of 1942 in Algiers, which helped change the course of WWII, remains largely untold. We are honoured to be holding an exclusive online screening of the compelling and vivid 2020 documentary Shadows of Freedom (65 mins), written and directed by Amos Carlen and Aline Robichaud. The screening will be followed by a discussion featuring historian Haim Saadoun and others.
