Guitar Pilgrim is bright, personable, and talented. He gives the most interesting demonstrations and explanations of guitar techniques that I have ever seen and heard. He posted this terrific video just six days ago.
Giving credit where credit is due, it was my friend and old University of Maine (Class of 1970) roommate, Gary Olsen, who first pointed out Guitar Pilgrim to me.
Here is my pitch for a guitarist, no longer with us, who is not often named among the greats but it seems to me should be. Artie Traum. Artie was a fine acoustic guitar picker. His brother, Happy Traum, says Artie was the best cross picker he ever heard; and with Happy Traum's background, that is saying a lot. Where Artie really excelled, though, is with chording. He was a master of selecting chords and, in some cases, making them up. He had his own names for some chords because they were not previously recognized. Sad. When I started putting in hashtags, hashtag Happy Traum was already in use but hashtag Artie Traum was not. Artie deserves a lot more recognition than he has gotten.
