John Simon's Album by John Simon, released on Warner Bros Records in 1971.

Review by Bruce Eder

..John Simon's Album (1970) ... was two years in the making and featuring many of the musicians with whom he'd been working over that period, including Cyrus Faryar, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, Rick Danko, Delaney Bramlett, Leon Russell, Jim Gordon, Carl Radle, Jim Price, and Rita Coolidge, Bobby Whitlock, and Jean Millington. Perhaps not surprisingly, John Simon's Album mostly resembles the first two Band albums, with a clear, sharp, brittle sound rooted in a multitude of popular music strains. The strangest song here is the first, "Song of the Elves," a surreal, psychedelic song derived from an R&B source and beat (with a strong '50s New Orleans feel) that calls to mind both Randy Newman and Brian Wilson..

The Band, The Last Waltz, 1978 on Warner Bros

Album from the move documenting The Band’s “farewell concert appearance” with a stellar set of guests including Dylan but also Paul Butterfield, Eric Clapton, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, and Neil Young (along with many others).

There are songs in the soundtrack album here that are not in the film – and the soundtrack reportedly went through a lot of post-production (overdubbing).

My copy—via a private sale—is a UK pressing. I’m still looking for a cleaner copy, perhaps one of the 6xLP 40th anniversary editions Rhino made for Warner Bros in 2016.

Three Dog Night (also known as One) is the debut studio album by American rock band Three Dog Night. The album was originally released by Dunhill Records on October 16, 1968.

Robert Christgau wrote:

"On the group's first album, producer Gabriel Mekler unveiled an unprecedented concept: three excellent rock voices, named only in small print on the label, alternated on material which could be characterized for the most part as unjustly neglected. None of the singers wrote, the supporting musicians were anonymous and, with one exception, production and arrangement ranged from tasteful to superb. Taken all together, it was a brilliant revamping of the produced groups of rock's early days, applied to serious songs instead of honest schlock."
