On Bluesky someone has the idea to create a product database to be consulted after a #ClimateChange #disaster has hit a country. The flooding in Bosnia over the weekend for example.
The database would inform users about products then potentially becoming unavailable or too expensive in their own country.
So they can think about workarounds and not be so hard hit when the shortage becomes apparent in price hikes or unavailability.
Brilliant idea!
I found this database on trade https://www.cepii.fr/CEPII/fr/bdd_modele/bdd_modele_item.asp?id=37
and downloaded the set #HS96 .
A quick and dirty statistics for #Germany as importer and #Bosnia as country of origin reveals that Bosnia's shipments in 2022 made up at least 10% of the total imports for the products in the table.
None of these things would be in the new data focus. But they may lead to job loss, either in Germany, or in countries who can't afford the expected price hike when Germany and others now source wood or glass from elsewhere.
