First time attempting to copy #HFDL #SWL transmissions. Pretty neat!
Exploring Aviation Signals: Gander VOLMET Meets HFDL on 13270 kHz

Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Egil, who shares the folowing: Hi Thomas, I have been rather inactive on the radio front for most of the year, but every now and then I just have to check th…

My #HFDL feed is still working well. Monitoring about 20 different HF frequencies in parallel from 5-25MHz 24/7 on a single #HackRF SDR fed off a Magnetic Loop antenna orientated for max RF East/West. Since a very local MW station (Absolute Radio) has gone QRT I might now consider removing the MW bandstop filter I had to use to reduce intermods on my multiple #KiwiSDRs and HF receivers.
Made some improvements with the #HFDL receive config. I was even able to receive flights connecting to Hawaii’s ground station today. However most cross Atlantic flights even those over the US are connecting mostly to Shannon. Almost as if they are intelligently picking ground stations that are in front of them rather than directly next to them (or underneath them). Or maybe the lower freqs decode better in the night path than the higher freqs in daylight path. Dunno. That’s the fun with HF. 🤷‍♂️

Sorry, you got double UK and no USA in that last post.
I'm blaming only had my first coffee for the day?
Again, no #ADSB, all #ACARS with some floobydust #ADSC over the ocean and a few #HFDL

As #HFDL use drops off vs #adsb I imagine it's not priority to update them or they get missed?

Ping @thebaldgeek @alex anyway for input. Probably not worth caring about but for mixed mode aggregators it means tracks get broken between hexes when switching coverage mode

I had an old Raspberry Pi, a RTL based SDR and an antenna that can be best described as a bit of wet string. But the results are incredibly satisfying. (Receiving 1090MHz ADSB signals from aircraft around my home). After playing with that for a while I thought as I’m also massively into HF I would try the same with HFDL ACARS. Sadly it appears that aircraft using HFDL don’t send a great amount of positional info and hardly ever an altitude, heading or speed. Now researching L-Band 😁 #HFDL #ACARS
Quite happy with my dumphfl/tar1090 setup, since i get very little ADSB traffic in this location.

Using the split node in #nodered I was able to breakout each of the ground stations 'Frequency in use' on the #hfdl #ACARS mode.
Now looking at using this data on a 'back control' data channel so we only tune to and listen on those frequencies that are in actual use.
I think #avgeek dashboard layouts and #nodered go hand in hand.
I just now rehashed my #HFDL #ACARS page.
I have added more than a few feeds of late and the page was suffering a bit of GUI rot as a result.
So, this is the current layout.
Of course you can hit the page up yourself and check it out, but yeah, more functional now I think.
