My awesome colleague Abraham Torres ran a bunch of simulations with our new regional climate model #HCLIM + showed that 2.5km resolution was really crucial to resolve precipitation from ARs on ice shelves and ice sheet. Cloud processes + foehn are also crucial to get the energy budget correct - interestingly Marlen's analysis shows that the surface energy budget is fairly constant through the event, but the sources of surface energy change with clouds mediating long/short wave fluxes and turbulent heat fluxes substituting in with foehn wonds.
22 people in the monthly #HCLIM meeting - I remember when you could comfortably fit us all around a single home dining table - Europe's common regional #ClimateModel is taking shape nicely...
The great Scandinavian drought of 2018 cost Danish agriculture alone ~ EUR 550million - what are the prognoses for the future?
Great talk by our #NCKF PhD student Rüben Haberli on high res convection permitting #ClimateModel simulations to understand #drought in #Scandinavia
#HCLIM #NMM2024
Oskar Landgren showing early results from @PolarRES - biases between observations + new gen Regional #ClimateModels in the #Arctic. Ours is #HCLIM.
The dots indicate weather station locations, Scandinavia disappears under a mass of dots!. The rest is much more sparsely observed...
