Gulfer's music builds on a potent combination of math rock and emo that allows their melodies to soar high while their instrumentation creates an intricate lattice underneath.

Gulfer is an indie rock band from Montreal whose music combines vocal elements of Emo and unusual time feel, stop/start dynamics, and sudden shifts and turns that are typically associated with math rock. They are not as fully math-driven as some of the other bands in the same sub-genre since they seem to have plenty of room for what feels like '90s inspired guitar-driven Indie rock elements and have better tolerance for sticking to the same groove for a while. The songs are mostly up-tempo, but the guitars are also distorted enough to carry the grunge sound they also seem to be eyeing from some distance.
