“I wanted someone to put a chord chart in front of me and it didn’t matter what it is, I could play a solo over it, first go, and make the changes:” Fusion maestro Tom Quayle explains why he tunes his guitar to perfect 4ths

Quayle's prodigious legato skills are as smooth as they come but he makes the case for an unorthodox tuning that brings symmetry to the fretboard. Is it time you tried it?

Why Did the E Standard Tuning Become the Standard?

Why do we tune the guitar the way we do?

Came up with a new guitar tuning yesterday. E B D# E B E. The idea is that the lower 3 strings act as a #tanpura drone, the melody played on the upper 2, with that E in the middle alternating between the drone and melody. Trying with some #banjo-inspired finger picking rolls. Good times! #Music #Guitar #GuitarTuning #MusicTheory #IndianClassicalMusic #Musodon #Bluegrass

I've been using 2 alt tunings lately:

DDADAD

and

DGDGGD

It's lots of fun exploring the new approaches and possibilities each has to offer.

Always looking for others. Any suggestions?
