~ 9 out of 10 counties w/ the highest food insecurity rates are rural. With the #GovernmenrShutdown & #SNAP benefits potentially being suspended, Flagstaff Family Food Center is working to feed people across Northern Arizona.

Recently, volunteers like Maria Martell have noticed increased demand.

“Doing like 150 cars a couple of years ago. Now we’re doing 270….almost at 300 cars, on a Tuesday…so many people in need.”

That is putting the squeeze on family finances, and many federal workers are now turning to local food banks to help put food on the table. I don’t know how I managed to not attach this related thought lol —

In a nutshell, the premium subsidies were set to expire at the end of this year THREE YEARS AGO.

Now with the #GovernmenrShutdown, people are about to lose SNAP benefits, unpaid TSA workers are calling out & upwards of 1,000,000 federal workers are going w/o paychecks.

Also, #ACA subsidy changes will hit RED states the hardest.

/2- #MyThoughts - likely not popular but pragmatic // #USpol Dems right now are fighting for #ACA extensions that were ALREADY gone in 2022 since they weren’t renewed. But even extended subsidies would only be a temporary bandaid that wouldn’t solve the #US healthcare problem. A separate & worthy argument is: #Healthcare is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE in the #USA & something new needs to be done. 🤔 and if a bandaid is constantly thrown over a wound, people will get complacent & not properly stitch it.
